Know · Your · Status

Most HIV messaging leans on fear, and fear deepens stigma. Mish Aidazeh goes the other way: plain, shame-free information on prevention, testing and treatment, carried by voices the community already trusts. Arabic first.

The campaign is built on three short videos made with community members of different identities and nationalities, including people living with HIV. A private community screening with live performance carries the same messages into a room where people can gather, ask questions and reconnect.

Three messages

Community first, clinic never. Trusted messengers instead of clinical authority.

01

Prevention

How HIV is and is not passed on, and the tools that keep people safe, explained simply and without judgment.

02

Testing and treatment

Where to get tested confidentially, and what treatment means: people living with HIV live full, ordinary lives.

03

Ending stigma

HIV is not the end of life, and it is not a verdict on anyone. Naming stigma is the first step to ending it.

Light, simple and true to the way the community speaks.

  • Three videosMade with community members, and being finalized for release.
  • A community screeningPrivate and by invitation, shared only through trusted community networks.
  • Confidential referralsNo testing at the event. People are pointed to safe, off-site testing, counselling and follow-up.
  • Safety built inInformed consent from everyone on camera, anonymized registration data, and a safeguarding focal point throughout.

The war · 2023 to 2024

الاستجابة الطارئة

When the war reached our communities

The war destroyed fragile infrastructure and pushed people into shelters with little safety or privacy for queer and trans people. Mainstream responses spoke of "vulnerable groups" without naming or reaching ours. Nakoon's volunteers closed that gap from inside the community.

Before dedicated funding, Nakoon moved its own resources and proved the model works.

In 2026 the response continues with dedicated funding: outreach, needs assessments, cash and medical assistance, informal shelter support, case management and referrals, with safeguarding for everyone involved.
